“Morgenrot & Abendblau” (“ Red Dawn & Blue Dusk”) – Facade design by THECUT
At the Niederhöchstadt S-Bahn station in Eschborn, a large-scale artwork entitled “Morgenrot & Abendblau” (Red Dawn & Blue Dusk) was created by Bremen-based artist Peter Stöcker, alias THECUT. The design covers the walls of two pedestrian tunnels, the staircase leading up to the platforms, a bicycle shelter, and a toilet container in the adjacent Park & Ride area. The two tunnels are separate underpasses, but they lie on the same axis and connect the same route. The first tunnel, “Abendblau” (Blue Dusk), passes under an expressway that is shielded by noise barriers. After about 150 meters, past the container and bicycle shelter, the second tunnel, “Morgenrot” (Red Dawn), opens up, leading directly to the S-Bahn or ending in a residential area. In the middle, a staircase connects the tunnel directly to the platforms.
In the middle, a staircase connects the tunnel directly to the platforms. The concept reflects the daily movement of commuters passing through the station in the mornings and evenings. Peter Stöcker translated this dynamic into an abstract visual language of lines, surfaces, and circles that blends in with the architecture of the tunnels. This enhances the otherwise dark and uninviting space and gives it a new urban quality. The project was implemented in collaboration with the city of Eschborn and the urban art agency Lucky Walls, founded by Peter Stöcker.
