FOUR Frankfurt
The new look of the Frankfurt skyline
The skyscraper ensemble designed by Ben van Berkel is another milestone for the Frankfurt skyline. It adds four more skyscrapers to the impressive cityscape and creates new space for apartments, offices, hotels and restaurants. The four new towers form a connecting unit that links the economically dominated banking district with the vibrant city center. The imposing shape of the hexagonal, partly rounded structures is given a filigree appearance by the systematic chamfering of the façade, making the tall, massive buildings appear light. This lightness is further enhanced by twisting the towers by 90 degrees, creating a sophisticated dynamic. This dynamic is a reflection of the ensemble's invigorating function for the city. The project attracts people from a wide spectrum of people due to the different uses of the space and revitalizes the district, which was primarily characterized by office space.
The spacious roof terrace on the historic building at Junghofstrasse 5-11 will become a central meeting point for business people, tourists and residents. The architecture itself also creates a lively appearance through the dynamic structures, which refreshes the iconic skyline. The name FOUR not only stands for the four new skyscrapers, it also refers to the four elements and the four cardinal points. In mythology, the four elements were seen as the pillars of our world, which together made life possible. Just as the FOUR Frankfurt is intended to give the district new vitality. The reference to the 4 cardinal points is created by the twisted orientation of the towers, which allow a generous 360 degree panoramic view and are oriented towards the path of the sun. A holistic and forward-looking project for the city of Frankfurt.
